WHO WE ARE

The Mount Kenya Ewaso Water Partnership (MKEWP) is a collaborative initiative across Nyeri, Laikipia, Meru, Isiolo, and Nyandarua Counties, engaging stakeholders from private, public, and civil sectors within the Ewaso Ng'iro basin. With 30 partners, including Water Resource Users Associations, county governments, and service providers, MKEWP focuses on water management challenges through dialogue, information sharing, collective action, advocacy, and capacity development.

WHAT WE DO

Guided by the motto "Maji yetu, Jukumu letu" ("Our water, Our responsibility"), MKEWP offers a platform to tackle issues related to water allocation, management, infrastructure development, and institutional capacity within the catchment area.

WHERE WE WORK

MKEWP operates in the Upper Ewaso Ng’iro North catchment, spanning from Mount Kenya and the Aberdares to Archer’s Post's semi-arid rangelands. The river flows through moorlands, forests, and semi-humid farmlands before reaching the flat, flood-prone Lorian Swamps, which are mainly semi-arid pastoral land.

We are excited to participate in discussions surrounding the water agenda in the Ewaso Ng’iro Basin. Our commitment to building partnerships and collaborating with diverse water stakeholders has led to substantial progress in the Upper Ewaso Ng’iro North Basin. We recognize the profound effects of climate change on water insecurity and the degradation of catchments, wetlands, and riparian zones. Consequently, we strive to steer the conversation towards nature-based solutions that enhance environmental water conservation as a strategy to address climate change.
